Dear David,
What do you think about gay marriage?
~Rather B. Single
Dear Rather B.,
Listen, if your idea of a great life is being an upper middle-class couple in the suburbs with children, go for it. For myself, my life has been all about romance. And if romance is gone, so am I. I am 83 and have managed to be in my fourth great romance right now. The other three lasted two years, thirty years and ten years. I count myself very, very lucky that I have managed to pull this off. I was always man crazy. I was never domesticity crazy. And if you think domesticity equates to security, you have another thing coming.
I think it was Tolstoy who wrote, "If you do not want to be lonely you should never marry." I think in this century we are going to see a lot of women opting for romance over marriage, while the people they are "copying"....gay men...will go in the other direction. Interesting isn't it?

Spring Fashion ~ great jackets & loafers
Listen, Spring is here! Time to shift gears and try something new, even if you are pretty conservative. Here are some things to think about.
1. The little jacket and the big bag. I think the are really here. Somehow it makes you look younger, trimmer, more ready for a new life in the new century. The light blue pants are okay and look good but aren't nessesary. Longer hair too. This is a 1960s throwback I kind of like.
2. The bright yellow jacket looks really good. Of course there are going to be more dry cleaning bills with all these lighter colors but I think this is a light color that is really very masculine. The rolled up pants cuffs I am not sure I like and the shoes with no socks I will never go to. I think the whole thing makes you feet look too big.
3. The loafer seems seems to be back. I actually have a pair I bought in once of those recycling stores and I wear a lot when I'm traveling because it makes going through airport checks really easy. Kick 'em off. Stuff them back on. There has been something really "stuffy guys in Palm Beach" about loafers but I think we can get over it. I think the green ones a lot.

Neighborly Advice!
Dear David,
I am not gay but I have a question. I live next door to a male couple with a child in Denver. This kind of a conservative neighborhood and everyone is very nice to them but we're not really mingling. I think I should lead the way in being neighborly but I am a single man in his early forties and I have to admit I don't want the neighbors to think I am gay if I start socializing with these guys. Am I chicken? Help!
~The Neighbor
Dear Neighbor,
You can be a friendly neighbor without being Jim Nabors. This is the 21st century. I keep repeating being gay is like being Swedish. A little different but in no important way. More important is to make your community into a community. Be friendly, be helpful, invite them to dinner but invite the other neighbors at the same time, espcially the ones who also have kids. Have a big cookout in the backyard and invite everyone. You should lead the way. And finally - you want to be nice to the neighbors, but do not be concerned with that they think!

I am 28 years old, gay and still a virgin...
Dear David,
I am 28 years old, gay and still a virgin. What should I do?
~Wonderin'
Dear Wonderin',
You are not in such a fix as you might think. Imagine all the bad sex you have avoided! Still, it is definitely time for you to lose it. First, do not pay for it. That will give you a bad attitude towards the whole thing. You must get it clear in your head what kind of guy you think is sexy. Then you must concentrate on going where those kinds of guys are. Muscly? Go to the gym. Intellectual? Try an adult education class. Whatever it is, get out there. Meet somebody. As them to have a drink, coffee, lunch. And probably this whole thing is about being rejected. Expect to be rejected. None of us are everybody's type. And if someone wants to pursue you, let them. You just need to meet some people. Keep me posted.
