Fashion day ~ I see red, silly hats & Tilda Swinton (I don't get it!)

Fashion news! I see red. Here are some new looks for men and women in red and I think you shouldn't ignore it. Somehow red on men doesn't look too girly - if that's what you're worried about.

Also, note the big hat for spring coming out of the Acne fashion show. I like Acne but lets hope this hat (upper right of photo) doesn't make it. It will make every man look like Tippi Hedren.

Also, Tilda Swinton. Am I the only one who doesn't get it?! Tilda seems to like being the fashion freak too much. This is not a great thing for a serious actress to do.

Handsomest Man in the World ~ James Deen

Well let's see, Handsomest Man in the World day here. What do we have here?! What about James Deen, the porn star - not gay porn, straight porn. Some of the magazines have had some big coverage on him. One full frontal, whew what a sexy man.

Dear David,
I am over 65 and I refuse to wear blue jeans or sneakers as I think they make me look like I'm trying too hard to identify with younger people. Am I wrong?
~Preserving my Dignity

Dear Mr. Dignity,You got it! There is something about jeans on older people that is just not right. I think we need to set the pace of being well put together on the front edge of fashion but we can't just pretend to be "hanging out." as for sneakers, I wear the kind that have a lot of shelance holes but no shoelaces because I think they say something. Sort of the nouveau sneaker. But the big, thick highly colored kind? You are right. Never!

I work in an office with a very handsome married man...

Dear David,I work in an office with a very handsome married man. Great body and very striking. I mentioned his name to a friend who lives in another city. He told me that this man was actually a formerly gay acquaintance in that city and that he had married and had a child (but primarily to please his parents). Do you think I have any future throwing myself in his way?
~Crazy Crush
Dear Crazy Crush,Yes, you are crazy. You are very likely quite young. This man is not available to you except perhaps for some quick illicit sex in a broom closet somewhere. You deserve better than this, my dear!

Who is your favorite movie star?

Tyrone Power in Alexander's Ragtime Band (1938)

Dear David,Who is your favorite movie star?
~Starry I'd

Dear Starry I'd,
The only movie star I ever had a real crush on was Tyrone Power. I must have been about twelve. I saw him in "Jesse James" and wrote him a fan letter. I was really in love with him. Tyrone Power had a graceful face for black and white cinema. He had beautiful eyes. He was Irish but decended from Spanish sailors who had been shipwrecked off the Irish coast - when the Spanish Armada tried to circle the British isles. No one else in the cinema has struck my fancy since then.

Fashion direction ~ new trend ~ skinny black

Last week I talked about the new wave sweeping in of skinny black. The very next day the New York Times had a big fashion coverage reporting the very same thing. How did this arrive so soon and so completely when all the designers are trying to promote bright colors and lots of prints...which looks pretty junky to me. Maybe the buyers of fashion are stepping up and just wearing what they prefer and to hell with fashion directions.

1. N.Y. Times coverage:

2. Lots of new looks in skinny black, both pants and dresses:

Dear David,
Who is your favorite designer?
~Wonderin'

Dear Wonderin',
Jil Sander beyond all question. I know she is German which  think is a good sign that somebody besides the French know what is going on in fashion. If I were a woman and had the money I would wear her clothes almost exclusively. She has the greatest sense that your clothes are to make you look great. You are not there to make your clothes look great, which is the big mistake too many women make. Her men's clothes also have that good stripped down but not calling attention to itself look.

Handsomest Man in the World ~ Karl-Edwin Guerre

This is a really great Handsomest Man in the World this week. Karl-Edwin Guerre, captured at the fashion shows in Paris a few weeks ago. Very handsome, very stylish. The big toggle coat he wore was pink! And I suspect there is a great body under all that excellent fashion gear he wears. And I love that slouchy hat, Karl Edwin. By the way, he's a photographer.

My lover of 17 years and I have just broken up...

Dear David,
My lover of 17 years and I have just broken up. It sort of began withering away about a year ago and I don't think either of us was to blame and I think we still feel love for each other...it was just sort of dead on its feet. He already has a new boyfriend, who has been sort of waiting in the wings for the past year I gather. And I have become involved with a very handsome man a bit older than myself, previously married and the father of three. I could be very romantically involved with him but he is not avidly pursuig me, although very interested. My common sense tell me he isn't the best idea in the world, yet I feel very drawn to him.
~Midlife and mixed up

Dear Midlife,
Seventeen years is a long time. But as my manager says, "The parties over, turn on the lights." I think you should pay attention to your feelings of uneasiness about Mister Ex-married. You have to be missing the feelings of intimacy with your departed partner. My own rule is that the other guy has to be pursuing me. Otherwise you can be headed for teenage heartbreak. Hold yourself back a bit-I think that is a good way to be in this situation. Maybe it will make the new lover shift gears and really get after you. If not, you have still made the right decision.

My boyfriend works to make extra money...

(image from the movie Magic Mike)

Dear David,
My boyfriend works to make extra money in a bar where men dance naked…and I mean naked. They are allowed to take it all off, legally. He tells me he doesn't go into the back room with customers for lap dances, but I'm not sure if I believe him. He makes a lot of money in this place…sometimes $1,000 on weekend nights. I think all of this is a bad idea - what do you think?
~Per Plexed

Dear Per Plexed,
What this is basically is whoring. I think this is entirely up to the person doing it. And I'm not sure how different this is from one person staying with another person for the money involved, call it what you like.

However, I do think promiscuity of any kind deadens your intimate one on one relationships. So, I think you're right. It is a threat to your partnership with him. I think I would discuss this with him. Avarice is one of the seven deadly sins, you know. A love of money can be very obsessive and wreck a lot of other connections in your life.

Fashion Day-Red, suspenders and blondes everywhere!

Fashion day and we are clicking!

1. Before the winter ends and you need a coat. This is it. The big look and very dashing.

2. I have been of two minds about this but the red, red, red everywhere might be a suit. For evening parties only. Looks great on the violinist Charlie Seim.

3. Suspenders are back. I actually like this. I am losing weight for my new show and my pants are slipping off. I like it! Suspenders.

4. The slumping long black silhouette seems to be everywhere. You need to be thin but the tight, tight top and kind of baggy pants looks interesting.

5. Short haired blondes are everywhere-think about it!

Handsomest Man in the World ~ Eric Turner

I have someone for you today that is VERY hot. A model who's name is Eric Turner. Eric!!!!!! You go!

Dear David,
I am beginning to get bags under my eyes even though I get plenty of sleep. I'm only 33. What should I do?
~Saggin'

Dear Saggin',
Try wringing our a washcloth in hot water and putting it on your eyes when you got to bed before you fall asleep. And in the morning make a cup of tea and put the teabag under each eye for a little while until it cools off, this should help alot. This is what the models do.

Suicide blonde...

Dear David,
I am a guy, have a very conservative job and I am overwhelmed with the desire to go blonde! What shall I do?
~Unblonde

Dear Unblonde,
This is a case of the blonde leading the blonde. I bleached my hair when I was in high school. I just saw my  high school yearbook recently...I looked so gay! However, I have pretty much remained blonde ever since. It's a symbol - man or woman - that you love life maybe more than other people. At the moment I am "Suicide Blonde" and I'm not talking about my suicide. Go for it!

What were your dreams when you were young?

Dear David,
As the old Peggy Lee song goes, "Is This All There Is?" Here I am: approaching forty, a good job, an nice lover/boyfriend, hanging onto my looks...and then what? Please, I need answers!
~Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

Dear B. B. and B.,
When I worked in advertising people wandered into my office and said, "I'm bored," and I replied: "You're not bored. You're boring." To not find life interesting is your fault. You set too low goals and now you've got 'em. I think when gay people copy straight people and aim only for a nice middle-class life, they shouldn't be surprised at what they get. All those nice heterosexual couples in Grand Rapids and elsewhere are bored, too. And boring!

Do you speak a second language? Why not? You'll meet some very interesting people. Did you ever study dance? Why not? Did you ever what to live in another country? What were your dreams when you were young? You must not forget the dream. That is the most important thing in your life!

Hello my darlings! Welcome to the 68th episode of "Come On Out! with David Leddick"! Fashion Day ~ Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and more!

Here is our fashion direction for today. I don't think it is too early to start thinking of Spring, do you? I was just in New York where it was like Nome, Alaska. Everyone was so bundled up it didn't matter what you wore. Let's think ahead!

Let me say this. Most fashion magazine's for men present the same old stuff for men as though it was news. This same old suits, sports coats, you name it. I am going to try to at least tell you about things that are really news and a change of pace because I think my readers are the kind of people that have the nerve to head off in new directions. Men's clothing hasn't changed much since about 1830 but it seems to be changing now. Here's what I think:

1. This Calvin Klein suite has the new shape. Suits are tighter. Say good-bye to Brooks Brothers!

2. Louis Vuitton is setting off in a new direction with a camel hair coat that is cut like a bathrobe. I never want new clothes but I would like this.

3. The all one color suit. Here's Givenchy's. All red.

And here are some more in green (Trussardi), orange and turquoise(Ferragamo). Think about it. It really looks new.

Handsomest Man in the World ~ Magazine Ad Model

Here is the Handsomest Man in the World and you can't even see his face! Here is an ad from a gay club here in Miami Beach called Score. What a body!
____________________________________

Dear David,
I don't really like giving..starts with the word blow ends with the word jobs. I know this is unusual, but it is the case in my book. This is a real problem for a gay guy. Help!
~Big Problem

Dear Big Problem,
You are not alone, believe it or not, to varying degrees. I recommend a great starts with a hand ends with a job. Have some body lotion with you, most men won't take issue with that!

I'm having a terrible time losing weight. Help!

Dear David Delight,
You always say we must stay "sleepable" - meaning in shape and healthy. I'm having a terrible time losing weight. Help!
~Your Adorer

Dear Adorable,
I am currently having two meals a day delivered to my house on a diet program. That's it, except for a piece of toast in the morning. See if there is such a system available to you locally. I just read an article on truths and myths about dieting and they said the delivered meals system works very well.

I have had excellent results. The meals are very tasty and no meals are repeated in a six week cycle of five times a week. And they are not at all expensive. I hope this helps.

San Francisco bound?

Dear David,
My lover has recently been reassigned to the San Francisco branch of his company. Moving there with him would mean quitting my job as a designer in the fashion industry and starting all over there, which is not a big city for my abilities. Should we try to continue in a long distance romance?
~Queer Query

Dear Queer Query,
No. A long distance romance with your partner in San Francisco is out of the question. Go! Your emotional life is more important than your career. You will be fine.
